Ok everyone! Here you see me in my Halloween 2009 costume (well, I'm going to wear this for other occassions, too), the national Swedish dress which was worn in Finland as well (we were under the Swedish rule). It can be also called (robe) Svedois.

The patterns for the National Swedish Dress were published in 15th of May, 1778. The King Gustav III of Sweden was interested in fashions and he designed the men's version of the national costume - nevertheless he left most of the designing work of the women's dress for Augusta Löwenhielm. It got a lot of influence from robe circassienne, French dresses and polonaise, but you can also clearly see the influence of typical historical romance from the 17th century (note for example the sleeves). Under the dress there is a pair of pocket hoops. The women's dress also never became as popular as the men's costume but it was well-welcomed for the court wear as it was much more comfortable than the robe de cour with heavy, large panniers.

My dress is based on the oringinal patterns though there is one thing I chanced. There should be a corsetbodice under the dress but I didn't want to/have time to make a wholly new stays for it so I decided to use a stomacher. The second thing I left out was a high collar that this kind of dress could have had. The dress took about 6 metres of black cotton fabric and the "flamered" decorations are of satin ribbon.

Ok, I could go on about the costume for ever but I think that is enough now...

EDIT: I downloaded a better picture now! I hope you like! The quality could be better though. Hopefully I can find time to take another pictures of it this summer...

ON SALE! Message me for more inquieries.

Thanks! I'm considering selling it though.. I can't use it that much.. Or rather, I don't feel like using it a lot.. :/ Even though it's really pretty style, I think it doesn't fit that well to most occasions.

yeah, see your point, many of the people i know who made one of those only did it so they could work in the background of "Gustav III:s äktenskap" (2001) as courtladies, but most of them selled them afterwards or just let them hang in the closet. i've wanted to make one for myself but somewhere i know i will probably never get to wear it:/
