Voilą: My new costume that I made for a masquerade. It's a striped jacket with a 'zone' front in 1780s style.

For costume freaks... the details:
The striped fabric is cotton with polyester thread stripes, quite similar to the fabric of Nordiska Museet's 1780's striped polonaise: [link]
The pattern of this dress was drafted by me and inspired by a jacket on IMATEX Museum's web collection:

Back view: [link]
The jacket is cut in the style of a French polonaise with fashionable puffy sleeves of the 1780s [link] [link] and the 'zone' front that was in fashion in 1780-1795.

The costume includes (among other things):
- 18th century stockings, stays and shift [link]
- a pillow-like thing called a false rump to support the dress at the back side for the fashions of the late 18th century
- buckle shoes with raher low heels (seen in this picture: [link])

I was very pleased with my hair that is curly like the fashionable hair of the 1780s - thanks to my friend and her mother who both helped me to make it look good.

Lovely costume, I agree that it's nice to have something a bit different! It's nice to have a variety so you don't blend into the crowd! :D (I'm sure Marie Antoinette would approve of that too!)

Thank you! :) I think Marie would like the simplicity of this dress... "to wear in the garden"

... I have seen the movie too many times...

I'm very into making the not-so-common types of 18th century dresses at the moment. Though, I'm going to sew a 1770s francaise in the near future. I already bought some fabric for it.

I really shouldn't buy any fabrics for some time now! there are quite a few costumes waiting for me to sew them. :S

I think it is impossible to watch a costume movie too many times!! Every time you watch them you learn something new!

I have a big problem with having too many projects I haven't started yet. I'm trying to work my way through some of them at the moment, but I'm also trying to make stuff to sell, so it's difficult fitting in both!

SO true!! And every time you find something interesting happening in the background or see a new pretty dress that you didin't notice earlier or notice that you have already seen one of the costumes before in another movie - and feel quite proud of it, because you're a real freak :'D Oh, I usually get really disappointed when there aren't enough extra materials in the DVD of a costume movie! WE DEMAND to hear costume maker's comments!!

I have the same problem with some projects... I think all creative people suffer from it :P But it's better than having nothing to do!

Oh I love it when you spot a dress that has been used before!! :D

I also wish there was a lot more 'making of' stuff that featured on the costumes. And I also would love to see the costume designer's drawings and illustrations for the costumes too.

Yes I do - I love that site so much, it's entertaining, and as a costume designer/maker it's also a relief that costumes get reused instead of being thrown out or left in storage forever!
